CloudyNews is moving to a more robust directory database. Until now, I’ve been using BizDirectory, a WordPress plug-in that was easy to get going, but it was very restrictive. It wasn’t possible to display products by category and it had no flexibility that would allow for expansion. The new directory is running out of Drupal and it will give me plenty of room to expand.
The hardest part was settling on choices for the categories: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and Cloud Admin felt like the obvious choices. But I know they are subject to second-guessing. If you have a disagreement, please let me know. This is a work in progress.
And do send in news about any products that I may have missed. Or share experiences you may have with these products. If I get enough replies, I’ll compile them and try to share them in a way that will help others.
In recent weeks, I’ve received many submissions of web services that don’t match the intent of the directory: I’m planning to include only services that can be used to manage a cloud computing environment. I don’t think there’s any need to maintain a list of all software that is running out of the cloud — it certainly would be much bigger database than I have time to maintain.
Looking forward to your comments — CloudyNews.com/directory. — Gus Venditto
