In May, IBM published a white paper that it calls Business Continuity and Resiliency Services, or what we mere mortals call “backup and restore.” Some of the service is based on Tivoli products and others are evolutionary versions of traditional services that would normally be associated with an enterprise-wide support plan. This white paper does a good job of outlining why the concepts of cloud computing make sense in the world of back-and-restore services.
The specific service described in this white paper is IBM Information Protection Services and among the selling points…
- Pay-as-you-go data backup and recovery service. Selling point: location independent.
- A standby email archiving system that can restore backups “within minutes.”
- FastProtect a near-continuous backup system for laptops and desktops.
